Identification of Circulating Tumor Cells in Patients with HPV 16 or 18 Associated Cervical Cancer
Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to evaluate if a new test can find circulating tumor cells in the blood of certain patients with cervical cancer. Circulating tumor cells are specialized cancer cells, which are not localized to a specific area of the body. Instead, they remain in the blood stream, and pose a risk of future attachment to an organ and growth of visible cancer. This test could be used to identify patients who still have cancer present, even if they have normal physical examinations and normal imaging studies. Identifying these cells may give physicians important information about how to treat patients if these cells are found.
