Integrating financial coaching and smoking cessation coaching for people with low income who smoke: a randomized controlled trial

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Conditions:
Smoking
Age: Between 18 Year(s) - 100 Year(s)
Gender: Male or Female

Other Inclusion Criteria:
1. Smokes ≥5 cigarettes per day.
2. Interested in receiving smoking and financial counseling.
3. Self-reported income below 200% of the current federal poverty level for their household composition.
4. New York City resident (required for referral to NYC Financial Empowerment Center).
5. English or Spanish language-speaking.
6. Able to provide informed consent.
7. Does not have a representative who manages his/her funds (to ensure the participant has the ability to manage household money).

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

1. Individuals who report knowing a current or past study participant (to avoid intervention contamination among participants).
2. Participants who report pregnancy or breastfeeding will be eligible for the trial but will not be eligible to receive nicotine replacement therapy (contraindicated).
