A randomized trial of topical corticosteroid use for prevention of recurrence of herpes simplex virus (HSV) keratitis
Brief description of study
The purpose of this research study is to determine the effectiveness of topical corticosteroids eye drops, in addition to standard of care oral treatment, in preventing recurrences in patients with a history of herpes simplex virus (HSV) eye disease. This study is looking at two different corticosteroid eye drops (prednisolone acetate and prednisolone sodium phosphate). Neither of these eye drop preparations are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat HSV or to be used along with other medications for HSV. For this reason, their use in this study is considered experimental.
