Quality of Life of Patients with Single-Sided Deafness Treated with Cochlear Implantation

Brief description of study

The purpose of this research study is to understand more about how cochlear implants affect the quality of life of patients with deafness in only one ear, also called single-sided deafness (SSD). The study will enroll patients with single sided deafness treated with a unilateral cochlear implant and a control group of patients with single sided deafness who were evaluated for a unilateral cochlear implant but did not receive one. Both groups will complete a general quality of life questionnaire and a hearing-related quality of life questionnaire. These questionnaires will be self-reported for adults and for older children, as is appropriate for the patient’s age at enrollment.
