Human Epilepsy Project 3: Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Conditions: Epilepsy

Age: Between 12 Year(s) - 40 Year(s)

Gender: Male or Female

Other Inclusion Criteria:
- Participants who are between the age =13 years and =40 years at time of enrollment
- Participants who were between the age =8 years and =30 years at time of seizure onset
- Participants with clinical seizure(s) and history consistent with IGE.
- Occurrence of at least 1 seizure of any type in the last 6 months
- Participants must have one of the following:
- Generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCSs) alone accompanied by generalized spike/wave of >3 Hz on EEG
- GTCSs with a history of absence and/or myoclonus, accompanied by generalized spike/wave of >3 Hz on EEG
- GTCSs associated with a history of absence and/or myoclonus, not accompanied by generalized spike/wave of >3 Hz on EEG and adjudicated for enrollment
- A clear history of absence and/or myoclonus, accompanied by generalized spike/wave of >3 Hz on EEG
- Participants who have a complete medication history since initiation of treatment, including doses and date of initiation available to study team
- Participants who have no other cause of epilepsy (e.g. traumatic brain injury)
- AED treatment (for seizures) instituted not more than 6 months before enrollment
You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

- Participants with focal epilepsy
- Participants with generalized/focal epilepsy mixed syndromes
- Those with progressive neurological disorder
- Participants who have epileptic or developmental encephalopathy
- Participants with major medical co-morbidities
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Participants with history of chronic drug or alcohol abuse
- Seizures only during pregnancy
- Participants with history of previous or current significant psychiatric disorder that would interfere with study requirements
