Biomarkers for preterm births using non-invasive samples

Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate if biomarkers measured in body fluids (such as saliva, urine, vaginal fluid, and blood) in pregnant women presenting with symptoms of preterm labor (such as uterine contractions) will predict progression to actual preterm delivery (birth of the baby). Biomarkers are a measurable substance in body fluid that can predict that occurrence of a specific outcome, in this case, it will be preterm birth. The study will compare inflammatory biomarkers from non-invasive samples (blood, urine and saliva) in pregnant women presenting with preterm labor with rapid progression to delivery (3 days or less) compared to pregnant women presenting with preterm labor who deliver more than 3 days from preterm labor.
