A 12-week randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial investigating the effects of levetiracetam in early psychosis

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Early Psychosis
  • Age: Between 16 Year(s) - 40 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Experienced a first episode of psychosis within 5 years
    2. Have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder or schizophreniform disorder
    3. Must have taken antipsychotic medication for a minimum of 8 weeks and at a stable dose for at least 4 weeks
    4. Experiencing psychotic symptoms (delusions or hallucinations) despite antipsychotic treatment

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Have a problem with substance abuse or dependence for substances other than nicotine and THC.
    2. Are currently suicidal or have been suicidal in the past 6 months.
    3. Are pregnant, nursing or unwilling to use a reliable form of birth control if it is possible to get pregnant.
    4. Have significant medical or neurological illness, including kidney disease.
    5. If you have metal implants, a pacemaker, or other metal in your body, or claustrophobia, you may not be able to have a brain scan but can still participate in the study.
