Percutaneous MitraClipTM Device or Surgical Mitral Valve REpair in PAtients with PrImaRy MItral Regurgitation who are Candidates for Surgery (REPAIR-MR)

Brief description of study

The purpose of this research study is to see how effective the MitraClip™ system is for treating patients who are candidates for Mitral Valve (MV) repair surgery. The MitraClip™ system will be compared against MV repair surgery which is the current standard of care for patients with primary mitral regurgitation (MR) who are candidates for mitral valve surgery. Primary MR means there is something wrong with the mitral valve itself that causes it to leak. The Abbott MitraClipTM is investigational. This means it has not been approved for commercial use by FDA for this indication but is approved for use in this study.
