Clinical Relevance of Accuracy of Basal Joint Injections
Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to better understand the accuracy of steroid injections into the joint at the base of the thumb for patients with arthritis associated pain. Steroids are commonly given as treatment for arthritis pain. This study involves injection of a contrast material (dye), called Omnipaque, along with the steroid to help see where the combined solution was injected on an X-ray. This would determine the accuracy of the injection and, specifically, if it was in the joint or adjacent to it and then see over time if the injection relieved pain and whether pain relief was location dependent. Omnipaque is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used in improving visualization of the joint at the base of the thumb.
