Brief description of study

The primary objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of pain coping skills training compared with usual care for reducing pain interference (primary outcome), and for improving other pain outcomes, opioid use, and associated conditions (all secondary outcomes) among patients with end-stage renal disease receiving treatment with maintenance hemodialysis. The secondary objective is to explore acceptability, tolerability, and efficacy of buprenorphine as an alternative to full agonist opioid pain medications in a subgroup of trial participants.
