An open label home-administered transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) clinical trial of Unipolar Depression

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Depression
  • Age: Between 18 - 99 Years
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Clinically stable participants that meet criteria for diagnosis of MDD
    2. Participants who are candidates for rTMS or ECT treatment and cannot get access to treatment due to the need for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    3. Currently experiencing a current major depressive episode of at least 4 week’s duration as part of a unipolar depression
    4. Participant’s antidepressant medication is stable = 30 days prior to MADRS screening
    5. Scored at least 20 on the MADRS
    6. Not pregnant and using medically acceptable contraceptive methods.

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. DSM-IV-TR psychotic disorder
    2. Drug or alcohol abuse or dependence in the preceding 3 months
    3. Concurrent benzodiazepine medication
    4. High suicide risk
    5. History of clinically defined neurological disorder or insult
    6. Metal in the cranium or skull defects
    7. Subjects with an implanted pump, neurostimulator, cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator
    8. Skin lesions on scalp at the proposed electrode sites
    9. Pregnancy
