Online Versus Lab-Based Psychoacoustics

Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to determine how web-browser based psychoacoustic measures administered at home differ from the same assessments administered in a lab. Cochlear implant patients are traditionally evaluated in the research lab using strictly controlled environments, such as sound proof booths and calibrated speakers. While these conditions allow for high levels of experimental control, they are not always feasible for patients who cannot travel to the lab. Patients will perform the experiments at home using written instructions, at the lab under experimenter supervision, and then again at home. The results of this study may enable us to reach more subjects and increase validity of the assessments.
