Piloting a Decision Aid for Older Patients Considering Catheterization as Treatment for NSTEMI

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
  • Age: Between 75 - 120 Years
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Must be admitted to the hospital, and there must be clinical suspicion for type I NSTEMI
    2. Must be eligible for non-urgent revascularization
    3. Must provide informed consent
    4. Must speak English or Spanish

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Does not meet all of the inclusion criteria
    2. Has other high risk features deemed by the PI, and attending cardiologist, to preclude medical management of NSTEMI
    3. Transferred from an outside hospital for left heart catheterization
    4. Has a troponin I >10
    5. Has a newly reduced left ventricular ejection fraction
    6. Has a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) <30
    7. Has significant sensory impairment that prohibits use of the decision aid (either severe vision or hearing impairment)
    8. Unable to read
    9. Has a clinical diagnosis of dementia and/or severe cognitive impairment
