Gastrointestinal tract colonization and Staphylococcus aureus associated skin diseases

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Skin And Soft Tissue Infection
    Atopic Dermatitis
  • Age: Between 6 years - 80 years
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    Atopic Dermatitis Group:
    1. Must arrive to the dermatologic clinic with a suspected diagnosis of atopic dermatitis
    2. Provide written informed consent
    3. Ability to be compliant and complete the study protocol
    SSTI Group:
    1. Must arrive to the dermatologic clinic, primary care physician, or emergency room with a suspected purulent skin or soft tissue infection
    2. Provide written informed consent
    3. Ability to be compliant and complete the study protocol
    Control Group:
    1. Controls must have had no known or suspected skin and soft tissue infections within the last 5 years or no known history of atopic dermatitis
    2. Provide written informed consent
    3. Ability to be compliant and complete the study protocol

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Pregnant patients, patients with impaired cognition, patients with HIV, and prisoners
    2. Taken systemic antibiotics within the 3 months prior to enrollment
    3. Fever > 38.0 C present
    4. Immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory systemic medication including cyclosporine, methotrexate, mycophenolate mofetil, dupilumab, oral steroids within the last 30 days or 5 half-lives (whichever is greater)
    5. Received phototherapy or light therapy within the last 30 days
    6. Used bleach bath within last 7 days
    7. Have another pruritic or inflammatory skin condition
