Blood volume components and capillary leak in ICU patients with SARS-CoV-2 infections

Brief description of study

In patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), the state of the intravascular volume, the characteristics of the blood volume components, and the development of a vascular leak is currently unknown. In a small cohort of patients were measurements of blood volumes were performed for clinical reasons we found significant abnormalities of which the clinical relevance is unknown. As these studies were random a definitive conclusion from these finding is difficult to make. Therefore a prospective observation study is needed to confirm the initial finding and possibly address the clinical consequences when the initial findings are confirmed.
