Paradoxical Lucidity in Severe End-Stage Dementia: A Mixed Methods Prospective Study

Brief description of study

Many people with severe dementia lose their memory, their ability to communicate with others or care for themselves. Sometimes, though, these people may experience an unexpected return of mental lucidity and regain their ability to communicate clearly for a short time, especially near the end of life. These lucidity events are called paradoxical lucidity (PL). To date, we know very little about these episodes of lucidity in people with severe dementia. The purpose of this study is to study episodes of lucidity in people with severe dementia at the end of life.
