Green Activity Pilot (GAP) Study

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Obesity
  • Age: Between 18 Year(s) - 70 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    Participants
    1. Reside in the Sunset Park, Brooklyn, neighborhood at least 50% of the time, or spend a significant amount of time in Sunset Park, such as for work
    2. Be a patient of a Family Health Center at NYU Langone in the Sunset Park area
    3. Have a history of obesity and have lost weight in the previous 24 months through changing your eating and physical activity behavior
    4. Speak English or Spanish
    5. Have an active U.S. phone number to schedule/reschedule study visits with research staff
    6. Be able to walk outdoors unassisted for at least 15 minutes over uneven terrain
    7. Have a desire to lose or maintain their weight and be more physically active while currently engaging in less than 300 minutes/week of physical activity
    8. Must provide written informed consent
    Healthcare providers or community leaders:
    1. Serve adult patients of a Family Health Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and/or serve adult residents of the Sunset Park community
    2. Speak English
    3. Must be willing to provide written informed consent

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

  • Participants
    1. Active psychosis and/or other cognitive issues
    2. Current abuse of alcohol
    3. A condition for which walking, physical activity, or weight loss is contraindicated
    4. Are the investigators’ and research personnel’s own patients
    Healthcare providers or community leaders:
    1. Are a student or trainee
    2. Supervised by the study investigators or research personnel
