Examining the Impact of Family Connectors

Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to examine the association between involvement in Family Connectors, a manualized peer-to-peer support and education program for family members of adolescents or young adults with symptoms of first episode psychosis who received OnTrackNY, a treatment program for adolescents/young adults with unusual thoughts and behaviors. A total of 96 caregivers/family members will be enrolled in this study; of them, 48 will be randomly assigned to Family Connectors, and 48 will receive a comparison condition (a packet of community resources). Outcomes consist of the family member’s feelings of self-efficacy, connection to services and supports, caregiving strain, satisfaction, and adolescent/young adult functional outcomes at school and work.
