A Pilot Study to Test the Feasibility of a Hybrid Preoperative Physical Therapy Intervention for Patients Undergoing Total Joint Arthroplasty

Brief description of study

This study aims to determine the feasibility of implementing a hybrid physical therapy (PT) intervention prior to total joint (hip or knee) replacement surgery for physically deconditioned subjects. The researchers want to see if there is a difference in post-surgery outcomes, like pain interference, between subjects who use the hybrid physical therapy intervention compared to subjects who have standard PT. The hybrid physical therapy involves an in-person evaluation followed by up to six weeks of telehealth physical therapy twice per week. Standard physical therapy is of similar duration and is usually conducted in person.
