Differentiating the Fit from the Frail

Brief description of study

The purpose of the study is to find out more about Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in patients 60 years of age and up. IBD includes Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis. The management of IBD in older adults is often more challenging due to the presence of other medical conditions and use of multiple medications. Responses to IBD treatment in older patients are likely to differ from younger adults. As such, it is important to study long-term IBD outcomes in the older population specifically. So far there have not been studies in IBD designed to find out more aspects unique to older individuals. These unique aspects include physical and cognitive impairment, and frailty, which makes up the overall health of an older individual. These factors may play an important role in treatment decisions, including the start of immunosuppressive therapy. The LOGIC study aims to learn more about these factors, and as a result, we are hoping to be able to contribute to overall knowledge regarding treatment effectiveness and safety in older patients with IBD.
