APOL1 Long-term Kidney Transplantation Outcomes Network

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Kidney Transplant
  • Age: Between 18 Year(s) - 85 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Living kidney donors with self-reported recent African ancestry (defined as African American, Afro-Caribbean, Hispanic black or African)
    2. Potential donors with APOL1 testing and result discussion =2 weeks prior to scheduled nephrectomy who also received the APOLLO materials (informed consent form and infographics) prior to nephrectomy surgery
    Recipients
    1. Recipients of a kidney transplant from an eligible living or deceased donor with recent African ancestry
    2. Recipients of multi-organ transplants including a kidney plus an additional organ (i.e. liver, heart, lung, pancreas, etc.) or pediatric en bloc and dual kidney transplants

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

  • Living Donors
    1. Participants who are unable or unwilling to provide informed consent
    2. Biracial or multiracial
    3. Potential donors who have not been provided with information on APOL1 or the APOLLO study =2 weeks prior to nephrectomy surgery
    Recipients
    1. Participants who are unable or unwilling to provide informed consent
    2. Donor's Next of Kin (NOK) did not authorize or consent to research
    3. DNA is not available from the donor
