Role of the Decision-Making Reference Point in Cognition and Psychopathology

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Major Depressive Disorder
  • Age: Between 18 Year(s) - 65 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
      Patients:
    1. Able to give written informed consent and follow study procedures
    2. Between the ages of 18 and 65
    3. Able to speak, read, and write English fluently in English
    4. Meets DSM-5 criteria for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
    5. Currently depressed
      Healthy controls:
    1. Able to give written informed consent and follow study procedures
    2. Between the ages of 18 and 65
    3. Able to speak, read, and write English fluently in English

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Patients:
    2. Unwilling/unable to comply with study
    3. Patients at high risk for suicide
    4. DSM-5 diagnosis of Bipolar disorders, Cyclothymia, Schizoaffective disorder, Schizophrenia; any psychotic disorder or affective psychosis
    5. Primary anxiety disorders
    6. History of OCD or OCD-spectrum disorders
    7. DSM-5 substance use disorder (Drug/alcohol) active within the past 12 months
    8. Mild cognitive deficits or history of traumatic brain injury
    9. Clinically unstable systemic medical disorders
    10. History of neurological disorders affecting the brain, including any history of stroke
    11. Pending legal action, incarceration or other reasons that might prevent an individual from completing the study
    12. Pregnancy
    13. Breastfeeding of infant
    14. Food Allergies to: Gluten, Nuts, Chocolate, or Soy
    15. Currently on a diet to lose weight
    16. Diabetes
    17. History of eating disorder
      Healthy controls:
    1. Prior Diagnosis of MDD
    2. Unwilling/unable to comply with study
    3. DSM-5 diagnosis of Bipolar disorders, Cyclothymia, Schizoaffective disorder, Schizophrenia; any psychotic disorder or affective psychosis
    4. Primary anxiety disorders
    5. History of OCD or OCD-spectrum disorders
