IMPROVING MUSIC PERCEPTION IN COCHLEAR IMPLANTS
Brief description of study
In this multi-site across-subject study, participants will be evaluated with custom written software to test pitch discrimination, the ability to perceive changes in melodic intervals, and pitch sound quality. Testing will occur in a soundbooth or quiet environment with the stimuli being presented through a direct audio input (DAI) cable connected to the cochlear implant and an insert earphone to the AH ear. No changes will be made to a cochlear implant user’s device or settings. Individuals will listen to various tones, complex sounds or melodies and make judgements based on what they perceive. These judgements will be recorded using a custom interface on a touch screen computer, or with a computer mouse.
