Intradialytic Myocardial Study Stunning in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Multi-Center Observational Cohort Study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Intradialytic Myocardial Stunning And Hemodialysis
  • Age: Between 21 Year(s) - 100 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
      In order to be eligible to participate in this study, an individual must meet all of the following criteria:
    1. Receiving outpatient maintenance HD therapy
    2. Age = 21 years
    3. Dialysis duration =1 year at the time of enrollment
      Enrollment in Substudies C & D additionally requires the following additional critiera:
    1. Completion of baseline echocardiography with quality sufficient to assess for the presence of IDMS
    2. For women of child-bearing capacity, a negative serum pregnancy test will be required within 48 hours.

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. An individual who meets any of the following criteria will be excluded from participation in this study:
    2. Known severe cardiomyopathy defined by history of diffuse hypokinesis/akinesis (poor function of the heart) or ejection fraction =30%
    3. Incarcerated
    4. Unable to consent
      For Substudies C and D, the following exclusion criteria apply:
    1. Chronic persistent atrial fibrillation
      For Substudy D, the following additional exclusion criteria are applied to eliminate use of medications that may interfere with myocardial catecholamine uptake:
    1. Current use of cocaine
    2. Current use of tricyclic anti-depressants
