An Evaluation of Home Urinalysis Testing for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) Patients at Elevated Risk for Developing Lupus Nephritis: A Pilot Stage and Randomized Controlled Study

Brief description of study

In this pilot study participants who enrolled in the SAMPLE Biorepository (s14-00487), who have provided permission to be contacted for future research, will be invited to take part will perform weekly home-based proteinuria testing in addition to having standard of care, and respond to study team’s weekly text messages with their urine test results for four months. At the end of four months, participants will answer questions and provide feedback so that the protocol can be modified as necessary for further efficacy testing in subsequent larger randomized controlled trial (RCT) phase. The study aims to develop, adapt, and evaluate home-based proteinuria testing for patients at elevated risk of nephritis in hopes of identifying early kidney disease.

The study will be using the HIPAA-compliant texting platform, SlickText, for patient communication. Participants will be able to send STOP message to opt out, and the only information included is their phone number. Additionally, they will be able to send TEAM message to receive a call from the coordinator if they encounter any difficulties. Each participant will receive texts in their preferred language.
