Sarcopenia as a Risk Factor for Adverse Postoperative Outcomes in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Brief description of study

The goal of this study is to evaluate the role of sarcopenia in postoperative risk among patients with IBD, and to develop a preoperative risk stratification tool which can be used to both reduce surgical delays in low-risk patients and identify high-risk patients who may benefit from preoperative optimization (rehabilitation and nutritional support). The research will serve as foundational work to standardize measures of sarcopenia in IBD, and will serve as the basis to improve preoperative risk assessments and interventions among the IBD patient population.
