NSF/FDA SIR: OBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT OF RECOVERY DURING POST STROKE NEUROREHABILITATION THERAPY USING BRAIN-MUSCLE CONNECTIVITY NETWORK

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Stroke
  • Age: Between 18 Year(s) - 80 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Having a first-ever ischemic hemispheric stroke resulting in moderate lower limb hemiplegia;
    2. Being enrolled in a normal post-stroke rehabilitation regimen at NYU School of Medicine;
    3. Ability to provide informed consent;
    4. Stroke confirmed with computed tomography or MRI in an acute care facility;
    5. Able to participate in three sessions of assessment, 1 hour/session, with a month interval between two sessions;
    6. Able to conduct the protocol for ankle dorsiflexion, walking and static cycling.

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Global aphasia or significant language barrier;
    2. Skin rash, allergy, or wounds at the locations where surface EMG and EEG electrodes are expected to be placed;
    3. Seizure episodes and on seizure medications;
    4. Edema in the affected side;
    5. History of multiple strokes;
    6. Previous neurological or musculoskeletal conditions which interfere with lower limb function;
    7. Life expectancy of fewer than 12 months;
    8. Botulinum toxin injection in the last six months;
    9. Enrolled in another clinical study;
    10. Enrolled in a drug or biologic study in the last six months;
    11. Major sight deficits which affect the interpretation of visualizations through a monitor;
    12. Significant cognitive dysfunction;
    13. Significant depression.
