A pilot proof of concept study the contribution of eye-hand coordination impairment to functional deficits in stroke

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Stroke
  • Age: Between 18 Year(s) - 80 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. >18 years and < 80 (older participants = white-matter loss on MRI)
    2. unilateral first-time ischemic stroke in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) distribution within one month prior to enrollment (radiologically verified)
    3. willingness to complete all clinical/research assessments, inclusive of MRI
    4. the ability to give informed consent and HIPPA certifications
    5. the ability to communicate in English

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. traumatic brain injury
    2. comorbid neurological, significant medical, or musculoskeletal condition that impedes assessments and/or testing
    3. comorbid visual condition, including restricted range of motion (ocular), heterophoria/tropia (clinically significant deviation), gaze palsies, or noted saccadic deficits (dysmetria, speed and/or latency abnormalities), pursuit deficits (catch-up saccades, maintenance), vergence deficits (alignment and speed with near point of convergence assessed), visual field defect, hemi-spatial neglect, and/or legal blindness
    4. significant cognitive dysfunction
    5. significant depression
    6. metal in the head (minus dental), or thorax, e.g., electrical implant devices, such as pacemakers or defibrillators, or other contraindications for MRI, and pregnancy, or other contraindications for electromagnetic-based motion analysis platforms
    7. participation in additional clinical research studies using investigational treatments
