Effects of ondansetron in obsessive-compulsive and tic disorders

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Obsessive-compulsive Disorder
    Chronic Tic Or Tourette Disorder
  • Age: Between 18 years - 60 years
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. You have a diagnosis of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or Chronic Tic Disorder/Tourette’s Disorder (TD) according to DSM-5 criteria
    2. You have moderate or greater disorder severity
    3. You are on psychotropic medication, stable for at least 6 weeks, or you are not taking any medications

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. You have a present or previous diagnosis of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or autism spectrum disorder based on DSM-5 criteria
    2. You have a present diagnosis of alcohol or substance use disorder (moderate or severe) based on DSM-5 criteria
    3. You are experiencing current moderate or high suicidality
    4. You have a major neurological illness (e.g., head trauma, chronic migraines, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, or other significant medical illness that would make participation unsafe or unfeasible)
    5. You have a health problem that prevents you from completing study procedures (e.g. back problems, severe carpal tunnel syndrome, impaired vision that is not corrected with glasses or contact lenses)
    6. You are a pregnant or nursing woman
    7. You have a positive urine toxicology or pregnancy test on the day of screening
    8. You have a drug allergy or known hypersensitivity to ondansetron (or other similar medications)
    9. You have heart disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disorder, long QT syndrome, or abnormal EKG results that the study doctor believes would make participation unsafe
    10. You take apomorphine or any other drug that acts similarly to ondansetron (typically other anti-nausea medications)
    11. You have blood test results at screening that the study doctor believes would make participation unsafe
