A Pilot Trial of Remotely-Supervised Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (RS-tDCS) to Enhance Motor Learning in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Multiple Sclerosis
  • Age: Between 18 years - 70 years
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Definite MS diagnosis, progressive subtype
    2. 9-Hole Peg Test score between -1.0 and -4.0 standard deviations from age-based normative data
    3. Score of < 7.5 or less on the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) (with caregiver proxy required for those with scores of 6.5 or greater)*
    4. Ability to understand the informed consent process and provide consent to participate in the study

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Primary neurologic, psychiatric or other medical disorder other than MS
    2. Use of upper extremity Botox injection within 3 months
    3. Current use of intrathecal Baclofen
    4. History of seizure disorder
    5. History of head trauma or medical device in head or neck
    6. Clinically significant abnormality on electrocardiogram (EKG)
    7. Symbol Digit Modalities Test or Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT) score =3.0 SD from published norms
    8. Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT-4) reading level below average (<85) (estimated general intellectual function)
    9. Skin disorder/sensitive near stimulation locations
