Effects of Elevated Intraocular Pressure on Lamina Cribrosa

Brief description of study

The purpose of this research study is to examine how the lamina cribrosa, a layer of tissue in the back of the eye, responds to increasing the pressure in the eye. We are looking to enroll subjects at risk for developing glaucoma, subjects who have been diagnosed with glaucoma, and healthy individuals. Glaucoma is a leading cause of visual impairment involving the irreversible death of the nerve cells of the eye. This study will examine the response of the lamina cribrosa to an increase in eye pressure in human eyes in order to better understand the process that leads to glaucoma. The study is sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH).
