A clinical study to assess whether the gut microbiome affects the response of children with short stature (SS) to growth hormone (GH) therapy

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Age: Between 5 Year(s) - 16 Year(s)

Gender: Male or Female

Other Inclusion Criteria:
- Children with height SD score (H-SDS) below -2.0 SDS who are being evaluated for GH treatment between the ages 5-16 years.
- Both males and females will be invited to study. All eligible subjects will be invited to study irrespective of race, religion, nationality who expect to follow in the NYU/Bellevue pediatric endocrine clinic.
You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

- Children with autoimmune disease, eating disorders, children that suffer from cardiovascular, respiratory or urinary disease as well as children any genetically diagnosed syndrome like Turner’s syndrome, Prader Willi syndrome, Angelman syndrome or those may appear dysmorphic on exam will be excluded.
- Children with GI tract symptoms or GI disease or untreated thyroid dysfunction will be excluded from the study. Subjects with antibiotic use in the last 1 month will also be excluded.
