Association between surrogates of arterial stiffness and urinary EDC in adolescents and young adults with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes compared to age matched healthy adolescents

Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to see if there is a relationship between the levels of bisphenols and phthalates (chemicals you are exposed to in day to day life) in the urine and cardiovascular status in adolescents and young adults with diabetes compared to healthy adolescents and young adults. This study will look at body composition and cardiovascular status. You are being asked to participate in this study because you either: 1. Are an adolescent or young adult with diabetes (either type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes) and have hemoglobin A1c more than 8%. This is the study group. 2. Are a healthy adolescent or young adult. For the purpose of this study, the term "healthy" means that you do not have diabetes or symptoms of increased urination, increased thirst and weight loss, and you are being seen in this clinic for some other reason. If you have symptoms of increased urination or increased thirst or weight loss, we will screen you for diabetes. If your screening is normal, we will consider you as "healthy" for the study. We are looking to compare you with adolescents who have diabetes. You will be in what is called the control group.
