Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

• Conditions:
  Arthritis
• Age: Between 18 years - 100 years
• Gender: Male or Female

• Other Inclusion Criteria:
  

  1. All patients with arthritis seen at HJD, NYU, Bellevue, and affiliated faculty practices are eligible to participate in this study.
  2. Samples will be obtained only from patients who are able to provide informed consent.
  3. Patients who are under 18 years of age will have informed consent provided by parents or legal guardian and will provide assent if deemed capable.
  4. Synovial biopsies will only performed on knees with significant synovial proliferation appropriate for this procedure identified by the principal investigator (COB).

  
  

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

• 1. Patients who are unable to provide informed consent.
  2. Patients less than 18 years of age will not be eligible for synovial biopsy unless deemed a medical necessity by a pediatric rheumatologist in consultation with a pediatrician
  3. Patients with significant coagulopathy (INR > 1.5, APTT > 1.5 x control), thrombocytopenia (platelets < 80,000), and patients on anticoagulation will be excluded from synovial biopsy.
  4. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to local anesthetics will be excluded from arthrocentesis and synovial biopsy unless cleared by an allergist.
