Reversing Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Through Exercise

Brief description of study

neuropathy symptoms. Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects 26 million people in the United States, with 30 –50% of type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients developing diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Prolonged DPN can lead to muscle deterioration, fat deposits, and loss of muscle endurance which can contribute to altered gait, impaired balance, and increased fall risk. There are no therapies to prevent or reverse the progress of DPN. Therefore, it is very important to establish effective treatments for DPN. The study involves a 10-week exercise regimen that has been used by another research group at the University of Kansas Medical Center. This study is looking to enroll 40 patients with DPN.
