Reversing Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Through Exercise

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Diabetes
  • Age: Between 40 Year(s) - 70 Year(s)
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Be between the ages of 40 and 70
    2. Clinical diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes
    3. Clinical diagnosis of DPN
    4. Have a BMI less than 40 kg/m2 (due to magnet bore restrictions)
    5. Able to walk unassisted

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Serious cardiac pathology or musculoskeletal problems that would limit exercise ability
    2. MNSI score < 1
    3. Current open wound or history of plantar ulcer for the last 3 months
    4. Partial foot amputations
    5. Inability to ambulate without assistive device
    6. Stroke or other central nervous system pathology
    7. Stroke or other central nervous system pathology
    8. Stage 2 hypertension (resting blood pressure >160 systolic or >100 diastolic)
    9. Contraindications to 3T whole body MRI scanners (e.g., pacemaker, cerebral aneurysm clip, cochlear implant, presence of shrapnel in strategic locations, metal in the eye, claustrophobia, or other problems).
    10. Subjects with alcoholism, chronic drug use, chronic gastrointestinal disease, or renal or hepatic impairment
    11. Pregnant women and children
