Human Epilepsy Project 2: Resistant Focal Seizures Study

Are you eligible to participate in this study?

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions:
    Epilepsy
  • Age: Between 16 years - 65 years
  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Other Inclusion Criteria:
    1. Subjects who are at least 16 years of age and younger than 65 years of age
    2. Subjects diagnosed with focal epilepsy with prior vEEG confirmation;
    3. Subjects who had failure of adequate trials of 4 AEDs, with at least 2 due to failure of seizure control, including current AEDs
    4. Subjects who have a seizure frequency of ≥ 2 focal seizures/month and at least 1 observable seizure/month
    5. Subjects able to keep a daily seizure diary, either independently or with assistance from a caregiver
    6. Subjects able to retrospectively report number of seizures/month for 3 months prior to enrollment
    7. Subjects receiving ≥ 1 AED for treatment of seizures

You may not be eligible for this study if the following are true:

    1. Subjects diagnosed with idiopathic generalized epilepsy or mixed focal and generalized or non-epileptic seizures within the last 12 months prior to study entry
    2. Subjects have progressive medical or neurological disorder
    3. Subjects with proven autoimmune etiology
    4. Subjects planning pregnancy in the next 12 months
    5. Subjects who have completed a pre-surgical evaluation and intend to pursue surgery in the near term
    6. Subjects with resective surgery and/or RNS/VNS in place less than 12 months prior to enrollment
    7. Subjects with presence of moderate or greater developmental or cognitive delay
    8. Subjects who have history of chronic drug or alcohol abuse
    9. Subjects with medical, psychiatric or psychosocial condition that would be expected to interfere with the conduct of the study
    10. Subjects who have enrolled in any interventional study that required a blinded portion or involves a non FDA approved drug or device
