A single center pilot study to assess the intra-observer reliability of measuring muscle strength using a hand held dynamometer in children and adults with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and type 2 (NF2)
Brief description of study
Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) are genetic conditions that affect many organs in the body. Many people with NF1 or NF2 also have muscle weakness. The purpose of this study is to assess how reliable the hand-held dynamometer (a small device) is in measuring muscle strength in patients with NF1 and NF2. The study will also measure the intra-observer reliability of measuring the dominant biceps muscle strength (in Newtons) in patients with NF1 and NF2 using a hand-held dynamometer. And assess the measurement error in measuring muscle strength in weak muscles and dominant biceps muscle using a hand-held dynamometer.
