AIR QUALITY CHILD AND ADULT HEALTH IN HOMES WHERE E-CIGARETTES ARE SMOKED

Brief description of study

Despite significant declines in use of cigarettes in the U.S., evidence indicates that American adolescents and adults are turning to other tobacco products. Recent work by our group indicates that more than 1 in 5 adolescents in the U.S. report having tried e-cigarettes before high school graduation. However, not enough is known about the safety of e-cigarettes, especially for children. The purpose of this study is to investigate changes in the surrounding air in the homes of ecigarette users and compare the air quality to that in homes where no smoking occurs and where cigarette smoking occurs. Additionally, this study will measure effects on the heart and lungs from using e-cigs and being exposed to secondhand e-cig smoke/vapor. We will accomplish this by collecting the air quality in your home, measuring your heart and lung functions, and obtaining samples of urine, saliva, nasal samples, and blood.
