Measurement of Thrombelastography as an alternative means to guide blood product use before invasive procedures in cirrhosis with severe coagulopathy: An observational study

Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to test the use of a blood test known as thromboelastography (TEG). This study will help us see if TEG can reduce how often we give blood before procedures. We would like to collect data on TEG because we believe that this test will safely reduce transfusions. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved TEG for use with adult patients when your doctor wants to know how well your blood is able to clot. In this study, TEG is being used for research purposes. It has helped reduce transfusions for patients with similar problems in other areas of the NYU Langone Medical Center.
