AWARE II (AWAreness during REsuscitation) - A Multi-Centre Observational Study of the Relationship between the Quality of Brain Resuscitation and Consciousness Neurological Functional and Cognitive Outcomes following Cardiac Arrest

Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to determine whether clinical measures to improve resuscitation in patients experiencing cardiac arrest (a stopped heart) leads to increased survival as well as improved brain function. In addition, the study will determine if patients who experience a cardiac arrest remember anything that happened during the resuscitation. Some people who have been unconscious for any reason have sometimes described having certain memories and thought processes during the event. They may have seen or heard things that relate to the events taking place around them. Very little is known about people’s experiences during unconsciousness (coma) and in particular a coma brought on by the heart stopping temporarily (cardiac arrest).
