A Randomized-Controlled Trial of Integrated Palliative and Nephrology Care versus Usual Nephrology Care

Brief description of study

Palliative care is specialized medical care for patients with serious illness. Adding palliative care to the treatment team of someone facing serious kidney disease has the potential to improve quality of life and to decrease symptoms such as pain, itch, or insomnia. This research study examines the effect of adding outpatient palliative care visits to your usual nephrology care. The research team will be evaluating how adding palliative care to your care influences your symptoms, quality of life, and advance care planning.
